The International Avenue BRZ is a sponsor of Phở Down 2016, a community event happening SATURDAY, July 16 from 11:00 to 13:00.
Join us for Pho Down! It is a unique event which focuses on the art of Pho (Vietnamese soup) and blends an afternoon of amazing food and beautiful cultural demonstrations, featuring some of Calgary’s most talented Vietnamese artists and performers. The event will also feature the first ever International Avenue Spring Roll Eating competition. And of course a LOT of pho.
The event is on Saturday, July 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and has two parts. The first taking place at the Albert Park Community Association (APRHCA) located at
1310 28 St SE. Performances will start at 11:00 am, followed by a spring roll eating competition, then Pho will be offered at eight Vietnamese restaurants on International Avenue for a donation of your choice. Tickets can be reserved on line at www.phodown.org or at the door of APRHCA.
Visitors can also catch a glimpse of artist Quynh May’s “Pink Rules” at the Pho Down event. The installation depicts the oppression and lack of liberty that many people in the world have to live under, especially the women of Vietnam. This will be installed at ArtBOX on 17E – a project by International Avenue the following week and is free to the public to see. ArtBOX is 1807 42 Street SE and open Monday to Friday 10-3.
Students of the Calgary Immigrant Educational Society have helped to facilitate the event with local teacher and organizer, Graham MacKenzie, as introduction to their new life in Canada.
This event is sponsored by Soul of the City grants, International Avenue BRZ, and Calgary Immigrant Educational Society.
