Target picks International Avenue as one of its first locations in Calgary
We’ll be sorry to see Zeller’s go to make way for the retail giant Target (5115 17 Avenue SE) in 2013. We are please however, Target picked International Avenue as a first introduction to the Calgary retail marketplace in 2013. It certainly is testament to the Avenue’s retail strength and vitality.
No Frills Opening April, 2012

GALA condos to break ground
The long awaited 386 condo unit project Gala, will begin to build their first phase in early summer. The project is located on the east end of International Avenue at 68 – 70th Street on 17th Avenue SE.
Arts Centre gets land
IAACC has been granted the right to the land by City Council on July 5, 2011 at the entrance of International Avenue (26 and 17 Ave SE) for a 1000 seat theatre . This now allows the group to begin fundraising.

Lam Phoung
On February 20, 2011, the Vietnamese community celebrated the work of songwriter, Lam Phoung, with a fundraiser/concert. The event saw over 1,000 people enjoy famous actors and singers perform his work. Presented by Thoi Bao newspaper. Alderman Carra, Dr.Carra, Don McSwiney and our Executive Director where there as special guests. The event raised funds for the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Congratulations to Tung Nguyen, Hein Vu and Quinn Do for organizing this superior event. International Avenue was proud to be a sponsor of the event.
Olympic Torch
Finding out last minute that the Olympic Torch was going to be travelling down International Avenue did not rattle us at the BRZ office. Instead we took to the phones, rallied schools and businesses to take to the streets to show our support of the torch relay and boy did they ever! Special thanks to Lynn Martin of Moe Amery’s office, Brenda Brown, Canada Day Committee for locating thousands of Canadian flags which your BRZ office distributed to all nine area schools. Thanks also to the Forest Lawn High School band who pulled together a great performance at the 4400 block to entertain spectators.
