Indonesian Kitchen opens on Avenue
We are pleased to announce the opening of the Indonesian Kitchen located at 3917 17 Avenue SE. This “one of a kind” restaurant features the cooking of Kartini Bint Castam. They specialize in Sundanese and Javanese cooking. Indonesian cooking while accepting influences of the great cooking nations of China and India retains its true character featuring its unique BBQ spices and Sambals. Indonesian classics include: Sate, Bakar, Sambal, Rendnag and Gule. The Indonesian Kitchen avoids MSG in their cooking and soon will be including organic food options. The long awaited award winning plan for International Avenue was kicked into high gear when Council approved GreenTRIP funding for the 17th Avenue SE transitway on November 14, 2011. See Media category for more info.
Arts Centre gets land
IAACC has been granted the right to the land by City Council on July 5, 2011 at the entrance of International Avenue (26 and 17 Ave SE) for a 1000 seat theatre . This now allows the group to begin fundraising.
Mural unveiled!
On October 18, 2011 The mural society unveiled to the public the sixth installment to the International Avenue Mural Series. This mural was painted by artist, Iman Omar and is dedicated to the Arabic Community in Calgary. Special thanks to the Alberta Community Initiatives Program for help with this project. New Mavericks
In October of 2010, the Calgary Herald chose 30 Calgarians as New Mavericks. Our Executive Director, Alison Karim-McSwiney was one of them.
