Many thrilling changes are underway.  Major construction is starting soon.   Current Construction Activity is:
Temporary signal installation to start at 44 Street March 20, 2017
Temporary signal installation is planned to start at 52 Street the week of April 3, 2017 (Subject to change)
ENMAX will be working on relocating utilities along 38 Street at 17 Ave SE starting March 20, 2017 with a planned finish date of April 2017.
Standard General (SG) will be o-nsite  performing utility locates.
SG is planning to start removing trees the week of March 27, 2017 (Subject to change)

And make sure to visit calgary.ca/17avesebrt for updates, pictures of what 17 Avenue will look like when it’s complete, and anything else you may need.

We’re excited to share with you the What We Heard Report for Phase 1 of the David D. Oughton project engagement, please see the attached report. With the completion of the report CMLC are now beginning Phase 2 where they will be issuing a new online survey, more sounding boards at the DDO site at 3345 12 Ave SE and an open house on March 30th. Here are some important dates:

·         Our online survey will be live on the DDO website from March 22nd to April 7 and we encourage you to check it out.  http://www.calgarymlc.ca/ddo-survey <http://www.calgarymlc.ca/ddo-survey>
·         The onsite Sounding Boards will be up from March 22nd to April 7, located on the north west corner of the DDO site and we encourage you to stop by and share your thoughts on our new questions related to the project.
·         Finally, we are thrilled to invite you to our Open House and Paint Night at the Albert Park/Radisson Heights Community Hall, 1310 28 St SE, on March 30th from 3-7pm. Stop by for some light refreshments and stay to create your own piece of art with Raw Canvas artists, all ages are welcome!

There’s an exciting future for the David D. Oughton School site.

New Businesses

New businesses to visit on the Avenue are Threefold Deal,   a consignment store with clothing, shoes, jewelry and housewares located at 4908 17 Ave SE.  They are open Sunday and Monday 12-6, Tuesday to Saturday: 10:30 – 7:00 pm.

Popeye’s Chicken will soon be open at 3909 17 Ave SE in the new year.  Known for their Louisiana- inspired home cooking and biscuits.

Tim  Hortons at 4710 17 Avenue SE is set to open the second week of December, complete with a drive thru and full menu you know and love.

Fritou Chicken is marinated 18 hours.   Initially introduced in the province of Québec, the quality of the Fritou products and the appeal of not being a franchise soon contributed to the chain’s ongoing success across Canada.   Over the years, Fritou has continued to solidify its position as a leader in the fried chicken market in Canada.  Opening soon at 3719 17 Avenue SE.

The Eyes on the Avenue is a project by our friends at Antyx who sought out people on the 17th Avenue SE area and photographed them.  The project is installed on two shipping containers and is at the International Ave Arts and Culture Centre site at 26 Street.  The project is also in association with Container by Springboard Dance group.


This July 15th……Emerge Market launches Friday, July 15 at 4 p.m.  It will feature a retail pop-up shop  recycled shipping container and a number of unique products.  On Friday enjoy live music and Saturday retro cartoon corner for the kids.  Child care is provided.  Layout 1_Page 1








Jan. 2015,

Condo projects are being undertaken in the community of Albert Park with the near sold out Albert Park Station.  Over 273 units are about to open soon. http://carlislegroup.ca/calgary/albertparkstation/

On the  other end of the Avenue expect new condos at 6100 block on 17 Ave SE.  Construction to begin soon.  More details to follow.



Past updates:

IAACC has been granted the right to the land on June 21, 2011 at the entrance of International Avenue for a 1000  seat theatre .  This now allows the group to begin fundraising.


Our Executive Director, Alison Karim-McSwiney  was chosen as a “New Maverick” by the Calgary Herald.
